You underestimate the extent of my knowledge, Rincewind. I have eyes, ears, and friends everywhere. I am your best option. And unlike our dear mutual friend, I happen to be getting on the devil's good side. Enough that I may steer his attentions away from less desirable wizards and toward better options. At least better in his eyes. Perhaps not their own.

[ Which is the same plan Chilton advocated, isn't it? But Petyr doesn't know that much. He just happens to be unintentionally mirroring the man. ]

[Rincewind hisses through his teeth, brought up uncomfortably short by this pointed revelation. They've been talking about him? - Or can Baelish listen over these devices somehow? Is that a power someone could have here?

Either way, it's aggravating beyond measure. Particularly when it's Baelish getting on the devil's good side that worries him.]

Then bloody well act like that's what you're interested in.

Then tell me what you know about his powers. What are things I should watch out for when meeting him in person? Can he read my thoughts? Can he sense lies?

...He can't read your mind. I don't know about lying. He can find a person as long as they or the building isn't warded - and teleport there instantly. He has quite a bit of magic, so assume he knows several spells. He can perform illusions. One of those makes it seem as though time has slowed. He can burn his symbol into someone's bone, and it lets him know if they're in danger. Possibly other things about them too, I'm not sure. I've got to assume he can heal himself as well.

...And that body isn't his. It's - a vessel. [or at least that's what Dean called it.]

[ All of that? That's a bit worrisome. It's easy to denounce magic back home, but here -- where everyone has powers, it's impossible not to think that there are some who are capable of this magnitude of power. But then Rincewind says something interesting. ]

His vessel? So are you implying he is something of a parasite?

Well it's... how it was explained is more like angels need to use a human body to be in this world. And there's something about it needing to be a specific person. Or certain people are better, I suppose? I wasn't able to ask more than that.

Is he priming you to be his next human body? Or are you merely a toy for his demented games?

I - I can remove his marks. The ones I mentioned he puts on people.

[ Unfortunately for Rincewind, Petyr feels he needs to understand this process if they are going to find a suitable replacement. ]

So you have a power that allows you to remove unwanted marks? That seems highly specific. Unless it is meant to erase deformities and blemishes as well.

Anyway, so that's mostly it, I think, just making sure I can't muck about further with his magic.

[ If this was video, Rincewind would see the totally skeptical face Petyr is making right now. But it's not, so he'll simply hear it in his voice. ]

I do not believe that. You have a greater use to him. Whether it's a connection to someone else he's after or using you as a pawn in his future plans. Who's mark did you remove?

A man named Miles Naismith. ...It was on him against his will. He and Lucifer are something at odds with each other.

[ That is the second time he's heard Naismith's name. But Petyr is glad to know just how involved the man actually is. ]

A foolish decision to be so brazenly at odds with a man of such power. Do you know what began this feud?

I didn't know when I first offered. And he made it rather difficult to back out after I did.

Something about them fighting on one of those - gods, what are they called? - underwater boats this world has.

There's always a way out of these things, Rincewind. I would think you would know all the clever means of escaping that which you do not desire to do.

[ It's been too long in the conversation without throwing an insult at him. And Petyr missed the chance to call his power pathetic, so he'd just call out Rincewind's cowardice to make up for it. ]

Then this occurred during the kidnapping. When the imPorts were abducted by the Russians?

[that only works if you find cowardice an insult.]

You'd think so, but somehow my terrible luck always finds a way. I'd have to admire it if it weren't so damn inconvenient for my health.

I wasn't here, but from what I understand. I'm sure you'll ask the man himself.

I could inquire with him, yes. It may be a path worth pursuing. Perhaps he could give me more information about Lucifer considering he has been marked by the man. A better understanding of his magic.

I'm sure you'll find out something useful. You always seem to.
