It was a joke, yes. But I am glad to hear you do not fall among those ranks. Far too often I read about the latest scandals surrounding politicians. And while a well placed scandal can bring about publicity, often times it is difficult to come up with one that will not negatively impact your character or campaign.
Have you considered forming a relationship with a fellow imPort? It does not necessarily have to be a real one. But I find the natives are most interested in the romantic affairs of imPorts. To a point where they will even make up ones that do not exist. It could work in your favor if you merely plant the seeds and watch your name spread throughout fan forums and websites.
[ Oh Baelish. Mitch has had like 5 beards already ]
Ah, I have. Been in relationships. [ Fake ones. At Edward's behest. They were tactical, and important -- and they'd kept Bradbury, bless his loyal soul, from ever guessing that there was a reason for Mitchell's chill. ]
But it's hard, to see someone you care for leave. I've been through it so many times, I... it's probably best to keep myself from going through that again.
Who says you need to care for them in order for them to play a role? Where I am from, marriages and romance are all a political game used to advance two families. In this world, I imagine it's not much different. It's merely politics.
[ And Baelish is already thinking Mitch and Power Girl might make a good political force... ]
Petyr, I appreciate it. I do. But while some people have been able to do that, I prefer to be a bit more honest in my attentions, you know? I feel like attachment, even the attachment that comes from working together can be hard to weather when someone leaves, and even a political significant other will be something that will be mourned.
And we don't have families to merge here, so it's not all that likely to come up.
So how will you handle the questions that are bound to come up surrounding your personal life? When people begin to inquire as to why a man who has been here for several years has not had the time for a serious relationship with either a native or an imPort?
The same thing I tell anyone else who asked when I ran for Mayor, and when I ran for President: I don't talk about my personal life or my powers. I know there's a fascination with who's fucking who, but I prefer, for the sake of both myself and any other potential partners I may have, to keep that private.
The reason I haven't had any in the public eye is simple: it's the public fucking eye.
There is a reason for that fascination, my friend. It humanizes you. Giving them something solid prevents the speculation and toaster fucking rumors. For most voters, they seek some way to relate to their potential candidate. The image you present now in your run for senate is a vital one.
Things can change. Exceptions can always be made. Would democracy truly be denied if it is what the people wanted? You, an imPort of tremendous political and imPort-related power, running their country? I would not bet against you if that was a path you wished to pursue.
You are quite right about that. And I do hope that should this future take you down such a grand path, you will not forget the past. Moments like these and the friends who can help you succeed.
[ Scratch his back and he'll scratch yours, Mitch. The Bitchell fandom certainly approves. ]

But I promise, I don't need a relationship to be interesting to them. I did get pretty damn high -- past Senate -- without it.

I doubt it, I don't think I'd have the ability to run, you know? I may be born from American Soil, but it's not THIS America.

I'll take the advice under advisement. You never know what the future can hold.
